Cops discover woman’s severed head in gruesome murder mystery
A Molepolole family has been left deeply distressed following the discovery this week of the severed head of a young female relative whose gruesome murder has shocked the entire village.
The 26-year-old mother of two, Lerato Botsang from Lekgwapheng ward was beheaded, cut into pieces and her body left to rot in an abandoned house.
Her torso was found a week after her disappearance, but the family wouldn’t bury a body with a missing head.
Botsang was eventually buried on Tuesday amid scenes of shock, grief and disbelief at the cruel manner she was killed after police found her head in the bushes and handed it over to the family on Monday.
Botsang’s decomposing headless body was discovered alongside that of her lover and father of her daughter, 27 -year- old Leruo Masenkane in an abandoned house two weeks ago.
“The head was found in the bush on Sunday following a tipoff and was taken to the hospital morgue where the body was kept,” said Molepolole Police Station Commander Andrew Bosilong
Botsang’s shaken Aunt Letsema Botsanag said: “The limbs were scattered all over the place and the police had to gather them together, but the head was not found until Sunday. It was handed over to us together with the body for the burial which we did on Tuesday.”
Although the police are still to find out what happened to the two lovers, suspicions are rife in the village that her boyfriend decapitated her with a knife before he hung himself.
“The reason we suspect that he was responsible is because police discovered a blood stained knife at the scene and his body was found hanging from the rafters,” explained Letsema.
Letsema revealed that Lerato left home accompanied by her boyfriend on Saturday 28 April, saying she was going to a baby-shower somewhere in the village. She never reached the party and was never seen alive again.
“Initially we thought she was spending sometime with the boyfriend. We called her on Sunday evening and when her phone went to voicemail, we called the boyfriend’s. The call went unanswered and we became worried. We then called the man’s mother who confirmed our fears that the two were not home,” the aunt said.
The family then reported the matter to the police a week later only to discover that the two were dead and their bodies were lying at the Scottish Livingstone hospital mortuary.
Lerato leaves behind two children aged six and nine, who are currently being looked after by her 77-year-old grandmother, Gabi Molefe.
