RANT AND RAVE
West Africa is very good at picking good players for Big Brother Africa while us in Botswana, except for Kaone, who has so far been the best player from Botswana, we seem to have no clue what it takes to pick a winner.
We simply have not learnt from past experience as year in and out we pick the same caliber/profile of housemates who do not appeal to Africa. We seem to believe in this American image that is not taking us anywhere.
I am sorry folks, our two housemates in this show will be lucky to survive three weeks. They may only be saved by the stupid new nominating system, which picks nominees for eviction randomly. There is a potential damper to this new system, real entertainers may be eliminated from the house pre-maturely if the machine consistently nominated two pairs of strong housemates.
It is therefore possible that by the mid of the show, only boring people will be left in the house. Lastly, can someone please tell me why Multichoice/DStv brought J Cole to come and rehearse at the BBA launch. We have money to waste in Americans in Africa and why is there no Botswana celebrity in the house, Shanti-Lo would have kicked ass, bo Babalwa are has-beens, mxm!
TRECKERS TRACKS TO GC
Maun entertainment king, Tops, is making his way to Gaborone.
He has been operating the only nightclub in Maun Treckers for the past decade. The success of that club has enabled him to also open another in Kasane. When Chez Ntemba in Mogoditshane closed down under a cloud of controversy rumoured to be tax related, Tops ceased the opportunity to acquire the property to expand hi club brand to Gaborone.
The Gaborone club scene took a dent when both Fashion Lounge and Chez Ntemba closed down. The city became even duller when Lizard Lounge closed recently. With the re-opening of fashion Lounge as Fushion Entertainment and Chez Ntemba as Treckers, the night scene may finally be revived again.
Word from the owners of Lizard Lounge is that the club will also re-open in Spring under the same management but a different concept. The City will then be back to a full complement of five nightclubs.
MY STAR TOP TEN
It really is turning out to be the biggest season, by performances, of the popular Btv talent search show, My Star.
Social networks Facebook and Twitter were once again awash with updates of the show during and after its broadcast last Sunday. Had Twitter been taking statistics from Botswana, this show will certainly trend for an hour or two on Twitter.
The show enters the most exciting stage of Top 10 this week with after the elimination of three contestants tonite. Just who would be eliminated is going to be mighty tough as all thirteen contestants have shown some guts and grit to arrive to where they are now.
Most of them do deserve a shot at the top 10 elimination round and hence the P100 000.00 first price and recording deal in London. What is clear to all is that, if they keep up the great performances from the last two weeks into the top 10 stage, this will be the toughest and best top 10 round ever.
AMANTLE GLOBAL CELEBRITY
Amantle Montsho raced in the 200m and 400m races recently in Japan and won both.
She may have been racing against weaker competition as was the case, but we should celebrate all her wins like it’s Olympic medals. We do not see any individual or sporting code in the country doing what she does for our image day in and out as she does. Many people in the country claim that we do not have celebrities in this country.
They do not know what they are talking about. She is our number one global celebrity, a powerhouse in her sport and specialty. She was actually the main headline for the 200m and 400m women races. Imagine this, she was asked to decide if her main 400m rival Felix should be allowed to race in the 400m against her.
Felix was at the same meet to race in the 100m event and when she heard that Amantle was going to be at the same event , she asked to run against her in the 400m. That’s the star/celebrity power she now wields. Big up gal, her wins in Japan make her the leading 400m women runner in the world today!
WALKING FOR KWATAESHELE
Zen Promotions, a local events company formed by Zenzele Hirschfield will hold a 10km charity walk for legendary guitarist Kwataeshele to help raise funds that would go to the construction of a house for the poor guitarist.
On February 3rd Zen Promotions donated a guitar and food to the legendary and massively talented Kwataeshele. Since.“Kwataeshele is a Mokwena in Molepolole, we are pleading with the Bakwena tribe to lead by
example in showing that indeed charity begins at home, members of the business community and Batswana in general to be part of this beautiful notion by joining the walk and also pledging what they can afford to make this event a major success as it will be of great pleasure to Rre Kwataeshele,” a statement from company reads.
