A 47-year- old businessman of Thitoyamokodi ward in Maun is in police custody after he mistakenly shot and killed his herdman while shooting guinea fowls.
According to a source the businessman fired his first shot but did not kill the guinea fowls. He then fired another shot without realising that the herd man had run in the same direction to catch the birds.
“He did not see that the deceased had jumped out of the car to try and catch the guinea fowls which were injured and that’s when he met his fate,” said the source.
Also according to the source the late 53- year- old herd man is related to the accused person.
Detective Superintendent Raymond Alakanani David of Criminal Investigations Department in Maun confirmed the accident but could not divulge much information as investigations are on-going.
He however said the accused person was in the company of police and veterinary officers on their way to Boitumelo ranch to slaughter cattle for local butcheries.
